In Pensole’s 12 week program, we were asked to design a product line for a Converse and Wildfang brand collaboration. Our team consisted of a color and material designer, apparel designer, and three footwear designers. Our goal was to design products that both empower women and allow them to live against the grain.

Sarah Martinez/ Age 27 / Brooklyn, NY.
Freelance Carpenter for Theatres.
Action: Picking up and carrying wood, kneeling to drill and hammer, and walking around a busy back set.
Problem: Lateral Pivoting and lateral support, toes flexing in the shoe when kneeling, and slippery surfaces.
Solution: Outsole wrapping up on the lateral side, flex grooves in flex zones, and Herringbone/ repeated pattern outsole.
Inspiration: Anti-Functional Fixedness.
Anti-Functional Fixedness is when you take an object and use it in a non-traditional way.
